The True Message of Christmas

To truly understand the message of Christmas, we need to go back to the original Christmas night, when an angelic host appeared to shepherds in the fields, declaring the birth of Jesus. 

This celestial proclamation encapsulates the essence of Christmas, providing a summary that is as relevant today as it was two thousand years ago.

Freedom From Fear

The first words of the angels were, "Do not be afraid" (Luke 2:10). In a world that thrives on fear—fear of the unknown, fear of the other, fear of the future—the birth of Christ brings a message of divine reassurance. 

The Savior has come, and because He has come, fear no longer needs to rule our lives. As 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear."

Good News of Great Joy

The angelic message was not just news; it was "good news of great joy" (Luke 2:10). In a world that often seems filled with sadness and despair, the birth of Christ is a beacon of hope and joy. 

The Savior has been born to deliver us from sin and to grant us eternal life (John 3:16). This is the ultimate source of joy—a joy that is not subject to changing circumstances but is eternal.

A Universal Savior

The angels declared that this good news was "for all people" (Luke 2:10). The gift of salvation is not restricted to a select few but is extended to everyone, regardless of race, nationality, or social standing. John 1:12 says, 

"Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." 

This is a message of inclusive love and universal salvation.

Glory to God in the Highest

The angelic choir sang, "Glory to God in the highest heaven" (Luke 2:14). The birth of Jesus is not just beneficial for humanity; it is foremost about giving glory to God. For in sending Jesus, God revealed His character—His mercy, love, and grace—like never before. 

Therefore, Christmas is a time to turn our focus upward, giving thanks and glory to God for this indescribable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15).

The Gift of Peace

Finally, the angels spoke of "peace on earth" (Luke 2:14). In a world marred by conflict, unrest, and turmoil, the arrival of Jesus offers the profound gift of peace. 

This isn't simply the absence of conflict but a deep, abiding peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7). 

For this peace to rest on us, we need to align our lives with God's Word, thus inviting His favor and peace to dwell in us (Colossians 3:15).

The Heart of Christmas

In summary, the true message of Christmas can be found in the angelic announcement on the night of Jesus' birth: freedom from fear, good news of great joy, a universal Savior, glory to God, and peace on earth. 

These are not just seasonal sentiments but transformative truths. They offer us a complete picture of what God intended through the birth of Jesus—the full scope of His love, the depth of His grace, and the enduring promise of His peace.
